Dr Zinon Kokkalis is Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Patras, School of Medicine, in Patras, Greece. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Athens, School of Medicine, in Athens, Greece. Dr. Kokkalis completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the “KAT” Accident Hospital, in Athens.
Following residency, he went on an advanced fellowship training in Reconstructive Microsurgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia, USA, for 2 years. In this fellowship he trained in pediatric and adult brachial plexus surgery and he executed complex surgical procedures involving reconstruction of brachial plexus and peripheral nerve injuries.
Next, Dr. Kokkalis was appointed as a clinical Fellow in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Upper Extremity Surgery, at Allegheny General Hospital, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, for 18 months. There, he trained in arthroscopy of the shoulder, elbow and wrist, and shoulder and elbow joint arthroplasty.
Upon completion of both fellowships (2009), he worked as a Consultant at the First Orthopaedic Department in “Attikon” University Hospital. Since 2014, he is appointed as an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University Hospital of Patras, University of Patras, School of Medicine, in Patras. Dr Kokkalis has special interests in adult and pediatric brachial plexus surgery, orthopaedic traumatology, and shoulder surgery and arthroscopy.
